Downtown Leading Indicators

Downtown Vision Presents the 3rd Annual Downtown Historic Church Tour!
 
Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 1-5 p.m. to tour a century of sanctuaries in one afternoon.  Begin at the Main Library and stroll through the streets of Downtown with family and friends and explore.  Church staff will be available at each of the ten historic churches to share the architectural and historical highlights on this self-guided tour. While several churches are within walking distance, trolley service is provided along the tour route, and is included in the ticket price.

2009 Downtown Historic Church Tour includes:
- Main Library
- Bethel Baptist Institutional Church
- Faith United Church of the Living God, Inc. Greater Hill Temple
- First Baptist Church  
- First Presbyterian Church
- First United Methodist Church 
- Historic Mt. Zion AME Church
- Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
- Old St. Andrews, with Emily Lisska, Jacksonville Historical Society 
- St. John's Episcopal Cathedral
- St. Philip's Episcopal

Additional tour highlights:
- Dr. Wayne Wood - 30-minute slide show on Downtown Jacksonville's history (location and time to be announced).
- On the tour, members of MetroJacksonville editorial staff and contributors will share their knowledge of Downtown Jacksonville.
- The Junior League of Jacksonville's Annual Festival of Trees will be on display at the Main Library.
- Tour ticket includes admission to the Rotary Gingerbread House Extravaganza at Old St. Andrews for that day only.

Tickets
Tour tickets are $5 per person. Children 12 and under are admitted at no charge. Twenty percent of all ticket sales will benefit the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition.. We recommend purchasing your tickets in advance via our website. Tickets are also available for purchase the day of the event at the Main Library (cash-only).

Did you know that Downtown Vision contacts Downtown stakeholders when we become aware of an issue at your business or property?  From investigating alarms to letting you know about property damage or urgent situations, we can alert you to important issues even when you're not Downtown.

We are currently updating our Downtown Emergency Contact Information database.  To update your contact information, simply email our Director of District Services, Amy Harrell.  Please include the property name and address, the emergency contact name and a number where you can be reached when you are not at your business.  For properties with private security, please include the security company name, contact name and phone number.

Hemming Plaza will be bustling with River Music's "A Christmas to Remember," a candlelight sing-along at 7 and 8 p.m. Enjoy horse and carriage rides around the Plaza courtesy of the City of Jacksonville Office of Special Events, and check off your holiday gift list with art from more than 50 local artists. Catch a family-favorite Christmas movie at Snyder Memorial Church and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at Visit Jacksonville. The new 229 N.
